Thoracic malignancies and Gynaecological cancers. The Surgical Oncology
department is backed by highly trained and experienced team of surgeons and
associated specialised staff in the field of oncology.
The Department of Surgical Oncology offers
clinical evaluation and diagnostic work-up including biopsies for various types
of cancer, treatment planning and surgery to remove the cancer tissues.
Surgical oncologists also perform palliative and emergency surgeries and
surgeries to stage the disease in certain circumstances. The department boasts of performing complex
Head and Neck surgeries for advanced cancers. It has performed the largest
number of microvascular reconstructions in Chhattisgarh with highest success
rate. The department of surgical oncology at Balco Medical Centre has been
credited with many firsts in Chhattisgarh like Supermicrosurgery in Breast
Reconstruction, Femur reconstruction with vascularised fibula bone and
extracorporeal irradiation of femur autograft, limb preservation in sarcomas,
and virtual surgical planning and CAD-CAM based 3D printing. The team commonly
performes complex surgeries like Cytoreductive surgeries with HIPEC, Liver
resection, Thoracotomy, Pneumonectomy, Mediastinal tumours, Esophagectomy with
gastric pull-up, Esophagectomy with Colonic transposition, Laryngo-pharyngo-esophagectomy,
